Threading gently Our own tapestry Your colours taint me Creature come safely Growing flowers Green roots are ours Bathing in your power Come out little bower Sister, protect me Lover, perfect me Barefoot no sound Concrete cold ground You have me unwound The tapestry we bound Sister, collect me Lover, connect me (Break) Sister, protect me Lover, perfect me

Walking down the street we used to walk together Wearing those blue jeans we used to wear together Oh, I fell down The right way down Oh! It was you! Taking me through the blue No! Now I'm new I see it from your view Oh! It was you! Taking me through the blue No! Now I'm new I see it from your view Watching movie scenes we used to watch together Getting no sleep We used to sleep together Oh, I fell down The right way down Oh! It was you! Taking me through the blue No! Now I'm new I see it from your view Oh! It was you! Taking me through the blue No! Now I'm new I see it from your view

about

“Ayda Akbal has created a sonic landscape which is both independently compelling yet crucial in guiding the emotional arch of the play. It is a blessing to have her angelic, ingenious and carefully composed music underscoring the language.” - Writer/Director Olive Weeks

The Play:
Olive Weeks debuts in this ode to the complexity of all-consuming friendship. In a new apartment devoid of June, Ivy faces being alone for the first time in her life. Join Ivy as she reconciles with her own company, heartbreak, and solitude. Get lost in this dynamic play dancing with memory, humour and poetry. Experience this brazenly heartfelt and delicately intimate World Premiere at Melbourne Fringe.

The Music:
The sonic landscape for ‘A Play About Ivy, that is Really About June’ explores Ivy’s feelings for, and memories of, June. In collaboration with director, Olive Weeks, two ‘categories’ of music were established.
Firstly, the cinematic sound-world of Ivy wrestling with her emotions of not living with June anymore. This sonic palette encompasses a mix of soft vocal melodies of longing, distorted and reversed textures of turmoil and confusion, and a constant and deep pad of sound for Ivy’s steady and deep love for June. Notably, the sound of time passing as June’s arrival gets closer hails from this sound-world within Ivy’s head.
The second is the diagetic music from Ivy’s Playlist – her favourite songs that bring back memories of her time with June – specifically written for the world of the play.
